LinkedIn Ads for Indian B2B: when the premium pays

LinkedIn is the most expensive click most Indian B2B marketers will buy. It is also the only platform where you can target a CFO at a 500-person manufacturer in Pune by job title. Here is how to tell whether that is worth it for you.

Side by side

LinkedIn Ads pays
  • Deals worth tens of lakhs or more
  • Senior, multi-person buying committee
  • You can name your target accounts
vs
Google Ads or outbound wins
  • Low-ticket or transactional product
  • Buyers already search for your service
  • Budget too small to test properly

The quick answerCopy

LinkedIn usually costs several times more per click than Google search, but it converts better where the buying committee is senior and the deal is large. Below roughly a mid-five-figure dollar deal (tens of lakhs of rupees in lifetime value) it rarely pays, and Google Ads or outbound will do more with the same budget.

  • LinkedIn’s edge is targeting by job title, seniority, company and industry, which no other ad platform matches for B2B.
  • Clicks are expensive, so the maths only works when one closed deal is worth a lot.
  • Lead Gen Forms usually produce more leads than landing pages, but check quality before scaling.
  • Start with a named list of target companies, not a broad industry audience.
  • Judge LinkedIn on pipeline and influenced deals over a full sales cycle, not on cost per lead in month one.
01

Are LinkedIn Ads worth it for B2B companies in India?

Yes, when your deal size is large, your buyers are senior and you can define the companies you want. For low-ticket services or small budgets, Google search and direct outreach usually return more per rupee.

LinkedIn’s cost per click is high because its audience is narrow and in demand: decision-makers, identified by job title, at named companies. For an IT services firm selling ₹40 lakh implementation projects to banks and insurers, reaching twenty heads of technology is worth a great deal. For a ₹15,000-a-month accounting subscription, the same click price rarely makes sense.

The useful test is simple. Estimate the gross profit from one closed customer, then estimate how many leads it takes to close one. If a realistic cost per lead multiplied by that number eats most of the profit, LinkedIn is the wrong first channel.

India adds one wrinkle. Many Indian decision-makers use LinkedIn heavily for reading but respond on WhatsApp and phone. Plan for a fast follow-up that moves the conversation off the platform.

02

Who should you target on LinkedIn?

Start with a list of target companies and two or three job functions within them. Account lists plus function and seniority filters beat broad industry targeting for almost every B2B offer.

LinkedIn lets you upload a company list and match it against company pages. For account-based campaigns this is the strongest option: you choose the 200 or 2,000 organisations that fit, and the platform shows ads only to people who work there.

Layer job function and seniority on top. “Finance” plus “Director, VP, CXO” is clearer than a long list of guessed job titles, because Indian job titles vary widely between companies. Avoid stacking too many filters; LinkedIn will warn you when an audience is too small to deliver well.

Website retargeting through the LinkedIn Insight Tag and contact-list uploads of existing leads are the other two audiences worth building in week one. Both need the right consent in place under India’s data protection law and, for overseas contacts, local rules such as GDPR.

  • Company list upload for named accounts
  • Job function plus seniority, not dozens of titles
  • Website visitors via the Insight Tag
  • Contact lists of past leads, with consent
03

Which LinkedIn ad formats work best for B2B?

Single image and document ads for reach, Lead Gen Forms for conversion, and Thought Leader ads to promote posts from your founders or experts. Conversation ads suit narrow, high-value audiences.

Document ads let people read a short guide or checklist inside the feed and can ask for contact details to unlock the full version. They work well for technical buyers who want substance before speaking to sales.

Thought Leader ads promote a post from a person rather than your company page. Senior buyers often engage more with a named expert’s opinion than with a brand ad, and the post builds that person’s following at the same time.

Video works for awareness and retargeting, especially short customer stories. Treat it as the top of the funnel and measure it on who watched, not on direct leads.

Should you use LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms or a landing page?

Use Lead Gen Forms first. Pre-filled profile details make them easy to submit, which usually lifts volume, but add one qualifying question so you can separate real buyers from casual downloads.

Because the form fills in name, email, company and job title automatically, it removes most of the effort of converting. The flip side is that people submit with little intent, and the email is often a personal address rather than a work one.

Add a single qualifying question, such as team size, current system or timeline, and send leads straight into your CRM through LinkedIn’s integrations or a connector so sales can respond the same day. A landing page is worth testing once you know which offer works and want more control over the pitch.

05

How much should you spend on LinkedIn Ads to start?

Enough to get a few hundred clicks on one audience and one offer over six to eight weeks. A small budget spread across many campaigns tells you nothing.

LinkedIn sets a minimum daily budget per campaign, and click prices change by audience and season, so check current figures in Campaign Manager rather than relying on a blog number. What matters more is focus: one tightly defined audience, one offer and two or three creative variations.

Ad spend is paid directly to LinkedIn and invoiced by them, so plan your cash flow and tax treatment with your accountant. Set a test budget you can afford to spend without a closed deal, because B2B sales cycles in India often run for months.

06

How do you measure whether LinkedIn Ads are working?

Track qualified leads, opportunities and revenue from LinkedIn-sourced and LinkedIn-influenced accounts in your CRM. Cost per lead on its own will make LinkedIn look worse than it is, or better.

Install the Insight Tag and set up conversion tracking for form fills and demo requests. Then tag every LinkedIn lead in your CRM so you can follow it through to an opportunity and a closed deal.

Because senior buyers see your ads several times before acting, many deals will come through search, direct visits or a referral after a LinkedIn campaign has warmed the account. Compare engagement in your target account list with pipeline from those same accounts to see the influence.

  • Qualified leads and opportunities, not raw form fills
  • Pipeline value from target accounts
  • Time from first touch to meeting
  • Cost per opportunity over a full quarter

LinkedIn Ads or Google Ads for B2B?

Google captures people already searching; LinkedIn reaches the right people before they search.

08

What are the common mistakes?

01Leaving Audience Expansion switched on

It widens your audience beyond the people you chose. Turn it off until you know who converts, then test it deliberately.

02Targeting by industry alone

An industry filter includes students, freelancers and junior staff. Add function and seniority, or use a company list.

03Judging results in the first month

B2B buyers take weeks to respond. Give a campaign six to eight weeks and judge it on pipeline, not early leads.

04Slow follow-up on form leads

A lead contacted days later has often forgotten the ad. Route LinkedIn leads to sales instantly and call or message the same day.

09

Questions people ask

Why is LinkedIn so much more expensive than Google or Meta?

You are paying for targeting precision. LinkedIn knows people’s job titles, employers and seniority from their own profiles, and advertisers compete for a relatively small, valuable audience of decision-makers.

Can a small Indian B2B company use LinkedIn Ads?

Yes, if it sells something with a high lifetime value and can define a narrow audience. Many small firms get better results promoting founder posts as Thought Leader ads to a target account list than running broad brand campaigns.

Is organic LinkedIn posting enough instead of ads?

For many founders, consistent posting builds more trust than ads at the start. Ads add reach to a specific list of companies and roles that organic posts cannot guarantee, so the two work best together.

How long before LinkedIn Ads generate deals?

Expect leads within weeks but deals over a full sales cycle, which for Indian enterprise buyers is often three to nine months. Set expectations with leadership before you start, and report pipeline monthly.

Do LinkedIn Ads work for targeting buyers outside India?

Yes. Indian service exporters often use LinkedIn to reach decision-makers in the US, UK, Europe or the Gulf. Click prices in those markets are typically higher, so a tight company list matters even more.
