Landscaping · See it as a client does

Three site visits this week. None of them had the budget.

Your gardens look good and the clients who hire you love them. But the enquiries are a mix: a big redesign from someone who goes elsewhere, and three site visits for people expecting a fraction of the price. This playbook shows how the right projects find you, and the wrong ones sort themselves out.

The short versionMost landscaping businesses lose good projects because their work isn't visible — no project pages, no photos by job type — and waste time quoting enquiries with no realistic budget because they never explain what projects cost. Project-scale pages, budget guidance and quick, qualified replies fix it before you drive out.

Why a good landscaper still loses the project

Clients buy a garden they can picture. Show them one like it.

Nobody commissions a garden from a list of services. A homeowner planning a patio or a full redesign looks at pictures first — finished gardens similar in size to theirs, in streets like theirs — then tries to work out whether it's in budget. If your site can't show them either, they enquire with whoever can, or they enquire with you expecting the wrong price and waste a site visit for both of you.

Why don't clients find our landscaping business on Google Maps?

Landscaping searches split by project: “garden design”, “paving contractor”, “retaining wall builder”, “lawn mowing”. A map profile that only says “landscaper”, with a handful of old photos, matches the cheapest searches and misses the projects. A studio with finished-project photos by type gets the design enquiry.

Should a landscaper publish project prices online?

Landscaping clients rarely know what a patio, a retaining wall or a redesign costs, and many guess low. “Every garden is unique” leaves them guessing. A guide with typical project scales, what changes the price and a realistic range lets the right clients enquire, and is exactly what AI assistants quote.

Why do landscaping enquiries waste so many site visits?

Most landscaping enquiries say “can you quote my garden?” and little else. The reply is a visit in ten days, and the client, with three quotes on the go, chooses whoever replied with an idea and a rough number. Asking for photos, size, budget band and timing up front lets you answer the same day.

What we'd do about it

Five moves, in the order that pays.

Fix the leaks first, then grow. Scaling a funnel that loses enquiries just spends more to lose more.

Social presence · where clients picture their garden

They save your gardens, then check what one costs.

Landscaping is bought on photos: finished gardens, before and after, by job type. Six things decide whether a saved project becomes a qualified enquiry.

Show prices?Fewer visits?Design vs mow?
Will publishing prices scare off good clients?

Usually the opposite. Clients with a realistic budget are reassured, and those expecting a fraction of the price rule themselves out before you drive anywhere. Ranges and what changes the price work better than fixed figures.

Do we need a page for every project?

Not every one: your best and most typical, grouped by type and area. A client wants to see a garden like theirs, nearby, at a similar scale. Ten strong project pages beat a gallery of a hundred photos.

How do we stop wasting time on site visits?

Ask the qualifying questions before the visit: photos, rough size, what they want, budget band and timing. You can reply the same day with ideas and a range, and visit only the clients whose plans are realistic.

Should design and maintenance be marketed separately?

Yes. They're different clients searching different terms. Maintenance clients want reliability and a regular slot; design clients want proof and ideas. Separate services on the profile and separate pages serve both.

Can we use social media instead of a website for our photos?

Use both. Social shows recent work, but it rarely ranks for “retaining wall builder” plus a suburb, and AI assistants rarely quote it. Project pages on your own site do both, and you can still share them on social.

How long before a landscaping business notices a difference?

Better enquiry forms and reply times can change the quality of enquiries within weeks. Project pages and rankings for design searches usually take a few months. We don't guarantee rankings or projects.

Can a landscaper rely on Instagram instead of a website?

Use both. Instagram shows recent gardens and reaches people dreaming about a project; your site and map profile carry project pages and budget guides that rank and qualify enquiries. Share each finished project in both places, with the job type and scale named.

Do we get a free website for our business?

Yes. Every monthly plan includes a free 5-page website for your business — fast, AI-readable and yours to keep. It goes live within 48 hours once your plan is active and the launch checklist is done. Your domain, hosting and any paid tools sit outside the offer and stay in your name; online shops and booking systems are quoted separately. What's included
