They asked how to protect the name. You weren't in the answer.
Your attorneys handle searches, filings, oppositions and disputes well. But founders start months earlier, asking an assistant how trademark registration works, what it costs and whether their name is safe. Whoever answers those process questions is the firm they remember when it matters.
The short versionIP and trademark firms usually lose clients long before instruction: assistants answer the process questions with other firms' content, fees for searches and filings stay vague, and an early founder enquiry gets a slow, generic reply. Clear process pages, published fee stages and fast, qualified intake fix more than more advertising.

Why a good firm still loses the client
Businesses learn the process first. They instruct who taught them.
Nobody wakes up wanting a trademark attorney. A founder picks a name, wonders whether it's safe, then asks an assistant how registration works, what it costs and how long it takes, and reads whatever it cites. Months later — at launch, before funding, or when a letter arrives — they instruct the firm whose explanation they trusted. If your process pages are thin or your fees vague, someone else did the teaching.

Why don't AI assistants mention our IP firm?
Questions like “how do I trademark a name”, “how long does registration take” or “do I need to file abroad” are now answered by assistants. They cite firms with clear, current, well-structured process pages written by named attorneys. A one-line services list gives them nothing to quote.

Should an IP firm publish trademark fees online?
Businesses see online filing services advertising low prices and can't tell what's different. A page that sets out clearance search, advice, filing and response stages, with fixed fees where possible and plain words on what each covers, makes the comparison fair — and it's what assistants quote.

Why do trademark enquiries go cold?
Founders often get in touch shortly before a launch or funding round, when the name is already on packaging or a pitch deck. A generic reply a week later loses them to a filing service. A same-day acknowledgement, a short intake on markets and timing, and a booked call keep them.
What we'd do about it
Five moves, in the order that pays.
Fix the leaks first, then grow. Scaling a funnel that loses enquiries just spends more to lose more.

Questions IP firms ask
Straight answers, no sales script.
Straight answers. If yours isn't here, a 30-minute call is the fastest route — no pitch, no deck.
Because assistants already explain the basics, and they cite whoever explains them best. Process pages with judgement — where filings go wrong, when to search first — are what make a business remember you when it needs advice.
How do we compete with cheap online filing services?
By being clear about what your fee covers and what a filing on its own leaves out, without disparaging anyone. Some businesses only need a filing; the ones who need advice will see the difference if you explain it.
Should an IP firm publish its fees?
Fixed fees for searches, filings and standard responses where you can, and clear ranges for the rest. Businesses budget for this and will compare whether you publish or not.
Can AI assistants really send us clients?
They increasingly shape where a founder starts. We can't control what an assistant says and we don't guarantee mentions, but clear, structured and consistently described pages make you easier to cite.
What about patents and designs?
The same approach works: explain the process, the stages and what each usually costs, written with your attorneys. Patent content needs closer technical review, and we build that into the workflow.
How long before we see a difference?
Reply-time and intake fixes can show within weeks. Process content and assistant citations take longer, usually several months, because they build over time. We don't guarantee rankings or instructions.
Do IP and trademark firms need LinkedIn and YouTube?
Usually, yes. Founders look up how trademarks work months before they file, and remember whoever explained it clearly. Attorneys posting on LinkedIn and short YouTube explainers build that recognition. Avoid commenting publicly on specific marks or disputes, and keep everything within your professional conduct rules.
Do we get a free website for our firm?
Yes. Every monthly plan includes a free 5-page website for your firm — fast, AI-readable and yours to keep. It goes live within 48 hours once your plan is active and the launch checklist is done. Your domain, hosting and any paid tools sit outside the offer and stay in your name; online shops and booking systems are quoted separately. What's included
