Education charities · See it as a donor does

The evidence is on page 31 of a PDF nobody can quote.

Your programmes run in real classrooms and your evaluation is honest. Yet when a donor or a company's giving team asks an assistant which literacy or learning charities to back, a larger name comes up and you don't. This playbook shows why, and what to change first.

The short versionEducation charities usually lose donors and partners because their impact evidence sits in annual PDFs that search engines and AI assistants can't read or cite, the “what does my gift pay for” question goes unanswered, and partner or volunteer enquiries wait weeks. Publishing evidence as pages and fixing the reply path changes that.

Why a good charity still loses the donor

Donors don't read impact reports. They read what gets quoted.

A donor choosing an education charity rarely downloads a 40-page report. They ask an assistant which charities help children read, skim the names it gives, open two websites and look for three things: what the charity does, whether there is evidence it works, and what their money would pay for. If your evidence lives only in a PDF, the assistant has nothing to quote and the donor has nothing to skim, so a charity with plainer pages gets the gift.

Why don't AI assistants mention our education charity?

Donors, companies and trusts increasingly start with a question: which charities improve reading, maths or school attendance? Assistants answer from pages they can read. Programme pages with clear outcomes and method get cited; an annual report in PDF form usually doesn't.

Should an education charity explain what a donation pays for?

Careful donors want to know what a gift pays for: a tutoring place, books for a class, a trained volunteer. “Every gift makes a difference” tells them nothing. A page explaining how you cost a programme and what goes on running costs is the answer assistants quote.

Why do corporate and school partner enquiries go cold?

Company giving budgets and school timetables are set on fixed cycles. A sponsorship enquiry or a school asking to join that waits two weeks for a reply often misses the window entirely. Small teams need one inbox, a named owner and an acknowledgement the same day.

What we'd do about it

Five moves, in the order that pays.

Publish impact?Ad credits?Small team?
Our impact report is thorough. Why isn't it enough?

It's thorough for funders who read it. Most donors and assistants won't open a long PDF. The same evidence, published as short programme pages with the method stated, can be found, read and quoted. Keep the report and link to it.

What can we say about results if our evaluation is modest?

Say exactly what it shows: what was measured, with whom, over what period, and what it doesn't prove. Honest, modest evidence stated plainly is more credible than big claims, and we won't publish impact claims your evaluation doesn't support.

Should we publish what a donation pays for?

Yes, as long as it's true. Explain what a programme costs to run, what a typical gift contributes to and how running costs are counted. If gifts are pooled, say so rather than implying a single gift buys a single item.

Is it worth using ad grant credits?

If you're eligible, usually yes, because it's spend that doesn't come out of restricted funds. The credits work best on cause and volunteering searches with good landing pages, not on your own name, which people find anyway.

How long before we notice a difference?

Reply-time and page fixes can show in enquiries within a few weeks. Being named more often in AI answers on your cause usually takes a few months and depends on what else is published. We don't guarantee mentions, rankings or donations.

We're a small team. Can we keep this up?

That's the point of the routing work: fewer places to check, templates for common replies and one owner per enquiry type. Programme pages need updating once a year, alongside the report you already write.

Which social platforms matter most for an education charity?

LinkedIn and Instagram, with Facebook for fundraising. Company giving teams and trustees check LinkedIn before a partnership, while individual donors respond to classroom moments and a clear “what your gift funds”. Use photos of children only with school and parental consent, and publish outcomes with the method and date.

Do we get a free website for our charity?

Yes. Every monthly plan includes a free 5-page website for your charity — fast, AI-readable and yours to keep. It goes live within 48 hours once your plan is active and the launch checklist is done. Your domain, hosting and any paid tools sit outside the offer and stay in your name; online shops and booking systems are quoted separately. What's included
