She loved your balayage. She booked the salon with a button.
Your colourists are good and your regulars are loyal. Yet new clients who found your work on Instagram or the map end up in someone else's chair, because booking took a DM, a wait and a phone call. This playbook shows where they go — and how to stop it.
The short versionMost hair salons lose new clients in three places: a map profile that shows no recent work, colour prices hidden behind “from” and “POA”, and DMs answered hours after the client has booked elsewhere. A faultless booking path, honest pricing and a fast reply fix it, not a bigger ad budget.

Why a good salon still loses the new client
Clients don't compare technique. They compare photos and friction.
A new client can't judge a colourist's technique, but they can judge photos. They search “balayage near me” or tap through from a reel, scan recent work on the map profile, read two or three reviews, try to work out what their hair will cost and look for a button that books. If any step means sending a DM and waiting, most try the next salon. It often takes a couple of minutes — long before anyone reads about your training.

Why don't new clients find our hair salon on Google Maps?
For hair, the map profile is the portfolio people actually see. A profile with interior shots, a single “hair salon” category and no services listed loses to a salon that posts finished colour every week, lists each service and answers questions — even with fewer reviews.

Should a hair salon show colour prices online?
A “from” price for balayage tells a client with long, thick hair nothing except that they'll pay more. Clients want to know what moves the price — length, thickness, lightening, toner, stylist level — and roughly where they'll land. A page that explains it honestly gets the booking and is the answer AI assistants quote.

Why do salon Instagram enquiries go cold?
Colour enquiries often arrive as an Instagram DM with a photo, sent in the evening. A reply the next afternoon usually finds the client already booked somewhere with online booking. DMs, WhatsApp and calls need one owner and an instant reply with a link to book a slot or a consultation.
What we'd do about it
Five moves, in the order that pays.
Fix the leaks first, then grow. Scaling a funnel that loses enquiries just spends more to lose more.

Questions salon owners ask
Straight answers, no sales script.
Straight answers. If yours isn't here, a 30-minute call is the fastest route — no pitch, no deck.
Should a salon publish colour prices if every head of hair is different?
Yes, as honest ranges with what moves them: length, thickness, how much lightening and stylist level. Say when a consultation is needed and whether it's free. Clients who can't estimate a price usually assume the worst and book the salon that told them.
We're busy on Instagram. Why does the diary still have gaps?
Attention isn't booking. If a post doesn't say which service it shows, who did it and how to book, people save it and move on. Every post of finished work should lead to a booking link for that service.
Can we use before-and-after photos?
Yes, as long as they're your own work, posted with the client's permission and not edited in a way that misrepresents the result. We label the service and stylist, and keep claims about hair treatments within the advertising rules in your country.
We like to talk to new colour clients first. Do we need online booking?
You can keep the conversation and still let people book it. A bookable consultation or patch-test slot captures the late-evening decision, and your colourist still has the conversation before any colour goes on.
How long before a salon notices a difference?
Profile, booking-link and reply-time fixes can show within four to six weeks because they plug leaks rather than build demand. Ranking for new services or nearby areas usually takes a few months. We don't guarantee rankings or bookings.
Does this work for a salon with self-employed or chair-renting stylists?
Yes, with some care. Each stylist needs a bookable page showing their own work, while the salon's map profile and reviews stay shared. We agree at the start how enquiries are routed so nobody's clients go missing.
Which social platforms matter most for a hair salon?
Instagram and your Google Business Profile, with WhatsApp for replies. Clients discover colour work on Instagram, check photos and reviews on the map, and book wherever it's quickest. YouTube Shorts is worth adding once the basics run every week.
Do we get a free website for our salon?
Yes. Every monthly plan includes a free 5-page website for your salon — fast, AI-readable and yours to keep. It goes live within 48 hours once your plan is active and the launch checklist is done. Your domain, hosting and any paid tools sit outside the offer and stay in your name; online shops and booking systems are quoted separately. What's included
