Massage therapy · See it as a client does

Her neck has hurt all week. Your site says “relaxing massage”.

Your hands are good and your regulars book the same slot every fortnight. Yet people with a tight back or sore shoulders after a long week search for what hurts, not for “Swedish massage”, and book whoever described their problem. This playbook shows where those clients go — and how to keep them.

The short versionMost massage therapists lose new clients because their pages name techniques — Swedish, deep tissue — while people search for what hurts and where, the price for 60 or 90 minutes is unclear, and evening enquiries wait. Pages for those searches, clear session pricing and online booking fix it.

Why a good therapist still loses the client

People don't search for techniques. They search for what feels wrong.

Someone whose shoulders have locked up after a week at a laptop doesn't know whether they need Swedish, deep tissue or sports massage. They type what hurts and where, pick a listing that seems to deal with exactly that, check what an hour costs and look for an evening slot. A site organised by technique, with prices on request and phone-only booking, is out of the running before anyone reads about your training.

Why don't clients find our massage clinic on Google Maps?

People search the problem and the place — “massage for lower back pain near me”, “sports massage for runners”, “pregnancy massage”. A profile listed only as “massage therapist”, with technique names as services, gives Google and AI assistants little to match, so a clinic that described each need wins.

Should a massage therapist show prices online?

New clients want to know what 60 or 90 minutes costs, which length suits a first visit and whether there are packages for regular sessions. A price list that just says “from”, or names techniques without lengths, pushes the question to the phone. A clear page is also what AI assistants quote.

Why do massage enquiries go cold?

Most enquiries arrive in the evening, when the ache is at its worst and you're either with a client or closed. A reply the next morning usually finds the client booked with someone who had online booking. An instant reply with a booking link, and one inbox for every channel, closes the gap.

What we'd do about it

Five moves, in the order that pays.

Fix the leaks first, then grow. Scaling a funnel that loses enquiries just spends more to lose more.

Name conditions?Show prices?Why one-offs?
Can our pages mention back pain or sports injuries?

They can describe who a session suits and what it involves, and say when someone should see a doctor or physio first. We don't write health or outcome claims, and everything stays within the advertising and professional rules in your country.

Should the website name techniques or needs?

Both, but lead with needs. People search for what hurts and where; techniques matter once they're on the page. A page for “desk-work neck and shoulders” can explain which technique you'd usually use and why.

Is online booking right for a one-therapist practice?

Often more so. When you're with a client you can't answer the phone, and evening enquiries are the ones most likely to book elsewhere. Online booking with your real availability takes that off your hands.

How do we get one-off clients to come back?

Suggest a sensible interval at the end of the session, send a reminder around then and offer a package to people who already come regularly. It works because it's helpful, not because it's persuasive.

How long before a massage clinic notices a difference?

Profile, pricing and booking fixes can show within a few weeks because they plug leaks. Ranking for new searches or areas usually takes a few months, depending on competition. We don't guarantee rankings or bookings.

Does this work for mobile or workplace massage?

Yes. Mobile therapists need a service-area profile and a page for each area covered. Workplace massage needs a page written for whoever books it, explaining how sessions, space and invoicing work.

What can a massage therapist post about pain on social media?

Describe who you help and what a session involves — tight shoulders after a desk week, recovery after a long run — without promising to treat or cure a condition. Point people to medical advice where it's needed, and keep claims within the advertising rules for your profession and country.

Do we get a free website for our clinic?

Yes. Every monthly plan includes a free 5-page website for your clinic — fast, AI-readable and yours to keep. It goes live within 48 hours once your plan is active and the launch checklist is done. Your domain, hosting and any paid tools sit outside the offer and stay in your name; online shops and booking systems are quoted separately. What's included
