Marketing consultancies · See it as a client does

They checked your own search results. That was the whole pitch.

Your strategy work is sharp and clients renew. But a founder looking for B2B marketing help asks an assistant, searches your name and scrolls your LinkedIn before replying. If you're not named, your last post was in spring and the site says “results-driven”, the deck never gets opened.

The short versionMarketing consultancies are judged on their own visibility before anything they claim, so a firm that isn't named by assistants, posts rarely and hides its pricing loses the client before the pitch. A clear specialism with published thinking, plain retainer terms and a reply faster than the one you'd recommend to clients fix most of it.

Why a good consultancy still loses the client

You are the first case study. Buyers read it before the deck.

A founder or marketing director can't judge your strategy work before hiring you, but they can judge your marketing. They ask an assistant who specialises in their problem, search your name, check when the founder last posted and look for pricing. Every gap reads as evidence: if you can't be found, can you make them findable? Most of the decision is made before anyone opens the credentials deck.

Why don't AI assistants recommend our marketing consultancy?

Buyers ask assistants for a consultancy with a specific angle — a sector, a growth stage, a channel. A firm that describes itself as “full-service” and publishes occasional trend posts gives assistants no reason to name it. A smaller consultancy with a stated specialism and written thinking behind it gets the shortlist.

The retainer nobody explains

Should a marketing consultancy publish its pricing?

Buyers know marketing help ranges from a few fractional days to a full retainer, and they want to know where you sit before booking a call. A page that explains your model, minimum term, what's included and what's billed separately filters in clients who fit. “Tailored packages” leaves them to guess, and they usually guess high.

Why do marketing consultancy enquiries go cold?

A founder who enquires usually contacts two or three consultancies and books whoever replies with a time. When the enquiry waits for the founder to finish client work, the prospect notices — and draws the obvious conclusion about how you'd handle their leads. The fix is the same system you'd recommend to them.

What we'd do about it

Five moves, in the order that pays.

Fix the leaks first, then grow. Scaling a funnel that loses enquiries just spends more to lose more.

Too busy?Narrow niche?Show pricing?
We're too busy with client work to market ourselves. Is that a problem?

It's the most common reason consultancies go quiet, and buyers notice. The fix is a rhythm that doesn't depend on spare time: interviews turned into pieces, a posting schedule and lead handling that runs without the founder.

Do we need to narrow our specialism to be named by AI assistants?

Usually, yes. Assistants name firms for specific questions. You can keep serving a wider range of clients, but lead with one or two specialisms you can evidence, so there's something clear to cite.

Should a marketing consultancy publish its prices?

Explain the model at least: retainer, project or fractional days, minimum term and what's included. A starting range helps if you're comfortable with it. Buyers who can't find any of this tend to assume you're out of their range.

Can we use client results in case studies?

With the client's approval, and only claims you can back up — what you did, what changed and how it was measured. Sophisticated buyers check, and an inflated claim costs more than a modest one.

Isn't it odd to hire an agency for our own marketing?

Less odd than it sounds. Most consultancies know exactly what to do for themselves and never get round to it. The value is in someone else owning the rhythm while you serve clients.

How long before we're named for our specialism?

Reply-time and pricing-page fixes can show in calls within weeks. Being named in assistant answers usually takes a few months of consistent publishing, depending on how crowded the niche is. We don't guarantee rankings or AI mentions.

Does a marketing consultancy really need its own social presence?

Yes, because clients treat it as a work sample. A founder looking for help scrolls your LinkedIn before replying, and a quiet feed suggests you don't practise what you sell. Post one useful thing a week in your specialism, show method rather than headline results, and answer messages faster than you'd advise a client to.

Do we get a free website for our consultancy?

Yes. Every monthly plan includes a free 5-page website for your consultancy — fast, AI-readable and yours to keep. It goes live within 48 hours once your plan is active and the launch checklist is done. Your domain, hosting and any paid tools sit outside the offer and stay in your name; online shops and booking systems are quoted separately. What's included
