Universities & colleges · See it as an applicant does

The assistant compared five courses. Yours was a PDF.

Your teaching is strong and your graduates do well. But applicants now ask an assistant to compare courses on fees, entry requirements and outcomes, and the answer is built from pages it can read. This playbook shows where your course detail goes missing — and what to fix first.

The short versionMost universities and colleges lose applicants because course detail lives in PDFs and faculty pages that search engines and AI assistants can't cite, full costs and entry requirements are hard to find, and enquiries wait days for a reply. Course-level pages, plain cost and eligibility answers and a nurture sequence fix this.

Why a good institution still loses the applicant

Applicants don't read prospectuses. They compare answers.

An applicant rarely reads your prospectus cover to cover. They ask an assistant or a search engine to compare a few courses on fees, entry requirements, modules and where graduates end up, then shortlist the ones that answered clearly. Parents ask the same questions a different way. If course detail sits in PDFs and fees are three clicks deep, the comparison is built from someone else's pages — long before anyone visits your campus.

Why don't AI assistants mention our university's courses?

Course searches are now comparisons: “best MSc data science for career changers”, “part-time nursing degree with evening classes”. Assistants answer them from course pages they can read and cite. An institution whose course detail sits in a PDF, or on a faculty page covering ten programmes, gives them nothing to quote.

Should a university publish the full course cost on each course page?

Applicants and parents want the full cost: tuition per year, what's included, likely extra costs, and which scholarships or funding they can apply for. When that's spread across finance, admissions and a PDF, they assume the worst or go with whoever said it plainly — which is also the answer assistants quote.

Why do prospective student enquiries go cold?

Applicants ask specific questions at awkward times — evenings, weekends, the week results come out. A reply that waits for admissions to work through a shared inbox often arrives after another institution has answered and made an offer. Routing by course and instant answers to the common questions close that gap.

What we'd do about it

Five moves, in the order that pays.

Show outcomes?Drop the PDF?AI mentions?
Should course pages show full fees, or link to a central fees page?

Show them on the course page. A central page is fine for policy, but applicants compare course by course, and assistants answer from the page about that course. Tuition, what it covers, likely extra costs and relevant funding belong together.

Can we publish graduate outcomes and employment figures?

Where you have verifiable, sourced data, yes — say where it came from and which cohort it covers. We don't write placement or salary claims you can't back up, and content stays within the advertising and consumer rules that apply to education in your country.

Our prospectus is our main recruitment asset. Do we drop it?

No. Keep it as a download for people who want it, but publish the same course detail as pages. The PDF and the pages can come from one source so they don't drift apart.

How do AI assistants decide which courses to recommend?

Nobody outside those companies knows exactly, and it changes. What we see consistently is that assistants cite pages that answer the question directly and are kept current. We track your priority courses monthly and don't guarantee mentions.

How long before we notice a difference?

Reply-time and routing fixes can show within an intake cycle because they plug leaks. Course pages ranking and being cited usually take a few months, and recruitment is seasonal, so we compare against the same point last cycle.

Do you work alongside our in-house marketing and admissions teams?

Yes. Most institutions have strong in-house teams with too many courses to cover. We usually take course-level pages, assistant visibility and enquiry routing, and work to your brand, approval and data-protection processes.

Which social platforms matter most for a university or college?

Instagram and YouTube for undergraduates, LinkedIn for postgraduate and professional applicants, and Facebook for parents and international families. Show real teaching and course detail, not just campus shots, and only publish graduate outcomes you can verify and source.

Do we get a free website for our institution?

Yes. Every monthly plan includes a free 5-page website for your institution — fast, AI-readable and yours to keep. It goes live within 48 hours once your plan is active and the launch checklist is done. Your domain, hosting and any paid tools sit outside the offer and stay in your name; online shops and booking systems are quoted separately. What's included
