You got specified. Then the contractor swapped you out.
Your products perform and the architects who know them keep specifying them. But new specifiers search fire, thermal and acoustic data and look for BIM objects and spec text, while contractors search price, stock and lead time. Serve neither, and you lose the specification, or keep it until the contractor swaps you.
The short versionBuilding materials manufacturers lose projects because specifiers search performance data, BIM objects and specification text while contractors search price, stock and lead time, and most sites serve neither well; project pricing goes unexplained; and sample and spec-support requests wait days. Separate paths for both audiences and fast routing fix this.

Why a good product still loses the project
Two audiences, two searches. Most sites serve neither.
An architect or specifier searches by performance: fire, thermal, acoustic and environmental data, and whether there's a BIM object and spec text to drop in. Months later a contractor searches price, stock, lead time and how to install it, and may look for a cheaper equivalent. A site that offers only the brochure loses the specifier early, or keeps the specification until the contractor swaps it out.

Why don't architects find our products when writing specifications?
Specifiers ask performance questions about fire, acoustics, thermal and environmental data, and look for BIM objects and specification text; assistants answer the same questions. If your performance data sits in a brochure PDF and your objects are on request, a manufacturer or specification library that published them gets named, and written into the spec.

Should building product manufacturers publish prices?
Specifiers rarely ask price first, but contractors always do, and they decide whether the specification survives. If they can't see what drives cost, where to buy, stock and lead time, they propose an equivalent they can price today. Explaining price drivers and offering a fast route to a project quote protects the spec.

Why do specifier enquiries go cold?
Architects request samples and specification support while drawings are being finalised, and the window is short. If the sample arrives after the specification is issued, a competitor is already written in. Contractors asking for a project quote have the same deadline. Routing both to an owner the same day fixes most of it.
What we'd do about it
Five moves, in the order that pays.
Fix the leaks first, then grow. Scaling a funnel that loses enquiries just spends more to lose more.

Questions building product makers ask
Straight answers, no sales script.
Straight answers. If yours isn't here, a 30-minute call is the fastest route — no pitch, no deck.
Should we publish BIM objects and specification text?
If specifiers are your route to market, yes. A specifier working to a deadline picks products they can drop into the model and the specification. Downloadable objects and clauses, kept current, get you written in earlier.
How do we stop contractors substituting our product?
You can't stop it entirely, but you can make it less tempting. Clear price drivers, stockists, lead times and installation guides make buying the specified product easy, and tracking specs to orders shows where substitution happens.
Can we publish fire and performance claims?
Only what your test evidence and certification support, stated with the conditions they apply to. We write from your test reports and data sheets, your technical team approves every page, and claims stay within the construction product rules in your markets.
Do architects really use AI assistants for product research?
Some do, alongside search and specification libraries. Either way the same thing helps: clear performance data, applications and limits on pages that can be read and cited.
How long before we notice a difference?
Faster sample and quote handling can show within weeks. Product and BIM pages usually take a few months to rank and appear in assistant answers, and specifications turn into orders on the project timeline. We don't guarantee rankings or orders.
Do we need separate content for architects and contractors?
Usually, yes. Specifiers want performance, objects and clauses; contractors want price, stock, lead time and installation. The same product page can serve both, with clear sections and separate routes to ask for help.
Which social platforms matter most for a building materials maker?
LinkedIn for architects, specifiers and contractors who check projects, data and your spec team. YouTube for install guides that keep the product on site once it's specified. Instagram suits finished projects that architects save. Publish only test data you hold, and make every data claim match the current data sheet.
Do we get a free website for our company?
Yes. Every monthly plan includes a free 5-page website for your company — fast, AI-readable and yours to keep. It goes live within 48 hours once your plan is active and the launch checklist is done. Your domain, hosting and any paid tools sit outside the offer and stay in your name; online shops and booking systems are quoted separately. What's included
