Textiles · See it as a brand buyer does

They filtered mills by MOQ. Yours isn't written anywhere.

Your cloth is good, your dye house is consistent and your long-standing brands reorder every season. But a new label sourcing a fabric asks an assistant or searches by fibre, weight, certification and minimum order, and shortlists mills that answer those questions on the page. This playbook shows where those briefs go.

The short versionTextile mills lose new brands because buyers shortlist on fibre, weight, certification and MOQ before contacting anyone, and most mill sites state none of it; price per metre and sampling costs go unexplained; and swatch requests from other time zones wait days. Fabric pages, clear terms and fast sample handling fix this.

Why a good mill still loses the brand

Brands shortlist mills on paper. MOQ, certification, then fabric.

A designer sourcing next season's jersey, or a brand moving to recycled fibre, starts with filters: fibre, weight, certification, minimum order per colour, lead time. They ask an assistant, search a marketplace, check two or three mill websites and request swatches from whichever look like a fit. A mill whose site shows a factory photo and “quality fabrics since…” gets filtered out before anyone feels how good the cloth is.

Why don't fashion brands find our mill when they search for fabric?

Buyers screen mills on fibre, weight, finish, certification and MOQ, and increasingly ask assistants to do the screening. If your site states none of these, a mill or marketplace listing that published them gets named, even for fabrics you make better. Fabric family pages with the specification written out fix that.

The MOQ and price nobody states

organic jersey price per metre MOQ

Your page“Price on enquiry.”Tab closed
Answered pageMOQ per colour · what changes price per metre · sample yardageQuoted by AI

Should a textile mill publish its MOQ and prices?

Buyers know price per metre depends on fibre, weight, dye and finish, but they need to know where your minimums sit and what sampling costs before they invest time. “Price on enquiry” with no MOQ means small labels take up your time and the right brands go to the mill that stated its terms.

Why do sample requests to our mill go cold?

Many fabric enquiries arrive overnight from buyers in other time zones, often on WhatsApp or a web form, with a season deadline behind them. If the reply comes next week, the brand already has swatches from another mill. One queue, an owner and a reply first thing the next morning stop most of these drifting.

What we'd do about it

Five moves, in the order that pays.

Social presence · where buyers check you

Designers find fabric on Instagram and check the mill on LinkedIn.

Labels discover cloth by seeing it and check the mill by its people and terms. Social does both, across time zones. Six things decide whether a save becomes a swatch request.

Publish MOQ?Green claims?Beyond fairs?
Should we publish our MOQ if it varies by fabric?

Yes, as a range or per fabric family, with a note on what changes it. Buyers who can't meet it leave early, and the ones who can arrive informed. If stock-supported qualities allow smaller runs, say so; it's a strong reason to contact you.

We supply brands under NDA. What can we show?

Fabrics, capabilities, certifications and processes, not customers or their designs. Photos of your own cloth, dye house and finishing say more than a client list, and nothing goes up without your approval.

Can we claim our fabrics are sustainable?

Only specifically: which fibre, what certified or verified content, and which audits you hold. Vague sustainability wording invites questions and can fall foul of the environmental-claims rules in your markets. We write what your certificates support.

Most of our buyers come from trade fairs. Does online matter?

Buyers often check your website before visiting your stand, and again before ordering. Fair contacts also go cold without fast follow-up, so online visibility and fair follow-up work together.

How long before we see more enquiries?

Faster swatch replies and fair follow-up can show within weeks. Fabric pages usually take a few months to rank and appear in assistant answers, and orders then follow the buying season. We don't guarantee rankings or orders.

Our buyers are in several countries. Do we need several languages?

Sometimes. Start with the language most of your buyers search in, and add others where you see real demand. Specifications, MOQ and certifications should read clearly in each.

Which social platforms matter most for a textile mill?

Instagram, where designers discover fabric by its drape and colour; LinkedIn, where sourcing teams check the mill, its certifications and its people; and WhatsApp, where swatch and MOQ questions arrive from other time zones. YouTube suits mill tours. Name only certifications you hold, with the fibre and scope they cover.

Do we get a free website for our mill?

Yes. Every monthly plan includes a free 5-page website for your mill — fast, AI-readable and yours to keep. It goes live within 48 hours once your plan is active and the launch checklist is done. Your domain, hosting and any paid tools sit outside the offer and stay in your name; online shops and booking systems are quoted separately. What's included
